🧱 Overview
The Hansø Pro+ Pergola must be securely anchored to a solid structural surface to maintain stability and warranty compliance.
If M10x100 expansion bolts cannot be used due to site conditions or surface limitations, follow the approved alternative bolt recommendations below by surface type.
✅ 1. Concrete Slab (Expansion Bolts Not Suitable)
Reason: Expansion bolts may not work on thin, cracked, or brittle slabs due to expansion pressure.
🔧 Recommended Alternative:
Concrete Screw Anchors — e.g. Tapcon 1/4" x 3-3/4" or 3/8" x 4"
✔ Advantages:
No expansion pressure (ideal for thinner slabs)
Pre-drill using a masonry bit sized for the anchor
Choose stainless steel anchors for long-term outdoor durability
✅ 2. Wood Decking (Directly Over Joists or Blocking)
🔧 Recommended Alternative:
Lag Screws or Structural Wood Screws
Example: 5/16" x 4" or 3/8" x 4" Hex Head Lag Bolts
🪵 Requirements:
Must pass through deck boards into solid joists or blocking
Add large washers under each bolt head for better load distribution
✅ 3. Composite Decking (e.g., Trex) with Wood Framing Underneath
🔧 Recommended Alternative:
Same as wood decks → Lag Screws into the underlying wood framing
⚠️ Important:
Never anchor directly into composite boards — they are not structural.
Install blocking between joists at mounting points for strength.
Use stainless or coated lag screws (Simpson Strong-Tie, Spax, or GRK recommended).
✅ 4. Concrete Pavers or Tiles Over Slab
Two scenarios:
If floating pavers:
Anchoring is not recommended — use ballast or counterweights instead.
If pavers are set over a concrete slab:
Drill through the paver and anchor into the slab below using:
Tapcon or Wedge Anchors
Recommended length: 3/8" x 5”+ (depending on paver thickness)
✅ 5. Other Surfaces (Stone, Brick, or Tile)
🔧 Recommended Alternative:
Sleeve Anchors or Epoxy-Set Anchors
Installation Steps:
Drill an appropriate hole for your anchor size.
Inject masonry epoxy (e.g. Simpson SET-XP or Hilti HIT).
Insert a stainless threaded rod and allow epoxy to fully cure.
Secure the baseplate using washers and nuts.
🧰 General Installation Tips
Always use washers under bolt heads for even load distribution.
Confirm the surface structure can handle uplift and shear loads.
In wind-prone or seismic regions, consult a licensed contractor or structural engineer.
Using unapproved anchors may void structural warranty coverage.
