Can I Leave the Awning Open in Bad Weather?

Know when to retract your awning during strong winds, heavy rain, or snow to prevent damage.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

Hansø awnings are built to resist moderate weather but must be retracted during extreme conditions to prevent fabric damage or structural stress.

When to Retract

Condition

Recommendation

Wind

Retract above 25 mph (Class 2 wind rating).

Rain

Retract during heavy rain to prevent pooling.

Snow

Retract completely — awnings are not snow-rated.

Hail

Retract immediately to avoid puncturing the fabric.

Why It Matters

  • Prevents water pooling on fabric.

  • Reduces strain on arms and joints.

  • Extends the lifespan of motor and fabric.

Optional Weather Protection

Add a Sun/Wind/Rain Sensor to automatically retract the awning when unsafe conditions are detected.
