Awning: Can I Add Accessories Like Sensors or a Water Baffle?

Discover compatible accessories for your Hansø Electric Retractable Awning — including a Sun/Wind/Rain Sensor for smart weather protection and Water Baffles for improved rain management.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

You can enhance your awning’s performance with two key accessories:

  1. Sun/Wind/Rain Sensor – automatically retracts or extends the awning based on live weather conditions.

  2. Water Baffle – directs rainwater away from the wall and edges, preventing water drip between the cassette and wall surface.

Both add-ons are optional but highly recommended for improving safety, convenience, and weather performance.

Notes

Sun/Wind/Rain Sensor

Detects sunlight, wind, and rain; auto-retracts awning when conditions change.

✅ Compatible with all Electric Retractable Awnings.

Wireless and easy to pair with the existing motor.

Water Baffle (10' / 13' / 15' / 19')

Fills the gap between the awning cassette and mounting wall to prevent water from running down the back.

✅ Matches all awning sizes and colors (Dark Grey / Pure White).

Recommended for installations exposed to frequent rain.

📌 All accessories are color-matched to your awning’s frame finish (Pure White RAL 9010 or Dark Grey RAL 7016).

Sun/Wind/Rain Sensor Details

How It Works:

  • Sunlight Mode: Extends the awning automatically when bright sunlight is detected.

  • Wind Mode: Retracts the awning when wind speeds exceed preset limits (≈ 25 mph).

  • Rain Mode: Retracts the awning automatically to prevent fabric pooling.

Installation & Setup:

  • Mount sensor on the front face of the building with direct sky exposure.

  • Powered by solar cell (no wiring required).

  • Pairs wirelessly with the motor’s receiver using the included remote.

Maintenance Tip:
Wipe the sensor lens every few months to maintain detection accuracy.

Water Baffle Details

Purpose: The Water Baffle seals the small gap between the awning cassette and the mounting wall, channeling water away from the structure during rain. For installations not sheltered under an overhang or without proper flashing, water baffles are highly recommended to prevent moisture ingress. However, they can be omitted if the awning is installed behind the overhang’s drip line, or if effective flashing and sealant are in place to block water entry.

Available Sizes: 10’, 13’, 15’, 19’ (match to your awning size)
Material: Powder-coated aluminum – same finish as the awning frame.

Installation Notes: Consider installing the water baffle during the initial setup for easiest alignment and secure fitting. For retrofitting, ensure the cassette is not yet fully hung to accommodate the baffle.

  • Installs directly behind the cassette before final wall mounting.

  • Must be level with the cassette for full water-tight contact.

  • A small bead of silicone sealant may be applied for additional sealing.- Retrofitting option: If the wall brackets are already installed, carefully slide and secure the baffle behind the cassette, ensuring proper alignment.

Benefits of Adding Accessories

  • 🌤️ Automatic Protection – Sensor retracts the awning in strong winds or rain.

  • 🌧️ Improved Water Management – Water Baffle prevents wall streaks and moisture ingress.

  • ⚙️ Extended Product Life – Reduced exposure to harsh conditions.

  • 🏠 Seamless Appearance – Accessories match frame color for a cohesive finish.

Maintenance Tips

  • Sensor: Clean solar panel with soft cloth; replace battery every 2–3 years if applicable.

  • Water Baffle: Check seal once per season; clear debris from edges to maintain drainage flow.
